Rubbish or resource?

01-09-2008

When do things become rubbish and when does rubbish become things?

Designit will help students find the answer this week in a new project on green design at the Danish Design School.

For the next month, 100 design students will develop that can help reduce waste in the future.

As one of several leading experts invited to kick-start the event tomorrow, Designit’s Chief Visionary Officer will present the key challenges facing designers in sustainable design.

Mikal Hallstrup will outline traditional contributions to green design – such as the user-friendly recycling stations that Designit developed for Vestforbrænding.

He will also reveal the potential of persuasive design - a strategic approach using design to promote desired behaviour amongst individuals and groups. Encouraging people to re-use rather than recycle free newspapers could lead to a significant reduction in waste, for example.

The project results will be exhibited on 14.00, October 3 at the Danish Design School.
